Timing belt magnetic conveyors

A magnetic timing belt transports sheets quickly and with extreme precision to and from tooling machines. Due to the magnetic force, the workpiece remains exactly positioned between two tooling processes. This also ensures the position of the sheet when it is picked up by a robot. Timing belts are equipped with permanent magnets or electromagnets. When you want to take workpieces off the belt, timing belts with electromagnets are suitable. This switches off the magnetic field when the robot grips the workpiece. With Goudsmit timing belt conveyors, you can also transport steel sheets vertically or suspended.

Application of a magnetic timing belt

With timing belts, you can move steel sheets safely and quickly to and from tooling machines. The high speed of up to 3 m/s and acceleration of up to 6 m/s² enable high productivity. The vertical or suspended transport of workpieces and sheets is also possible with this technology. The continuous magnetic force during transport guarantees exact positioning without slippage. This prevents the accumulation of products and possible consequential damage such as production stops, and therefore high costs.

Timing belts are often used for the outfeed and infeed to laser cutting tables and press brakes. In addition to the metal industry, we also see magnetic timing belts in automotive, aerospace and high-tech assembly lines.

Timing belts are equipped with permanent magnets or electromagnets. Permanent magnetic timing belts are best chosen if only transport takes place. When a robot has to remove steel sheets from the conveyor belt, we recommend electromagnets. You can switch this off as soon as a robot gripper picks up the sheet.

Connection & operation of timing belts

Possibilities
Timing belt magnetic conveyors are available in almost all lengths from 0.5 to 6 m. The example products shown are only an indication of the possibilities. The modular construction makes in line mounting possible, making it easy to combine or expand the conveyors. You can operate the conveyor belts synchronously with a sprocket coupling.

Connection voltage
If the conveyor belt is equipped with electromagnets, then operation takes place through terminal boxes at 24V DC. The permanent magnetic version only requires power for the rotation of the conveyor belt.

Robust construction

The timing belts have a robust, low-maintenance construction. The entire pulley and magnet housing is made of anodised aluminium, so no rust formation occurs. The conveyor belt is made of wear-resistant PU material, which means that belt replacement is rarely necessary due to wear.

Working principle of a timing belt

Timing belts use powerful magnets positioned under the conveyor belt. The special magnet configuration ensures a linear magnetic field that guarantees correct attraction and stable positioning during transport. The video shows how sheet metal workpieces are transported and how magnetic grippers take over the sheets. Do you have questions about applying this magnet technology in your process?
